Aspartame

I don't really want to burst anyone's bubble but I'm afraid the following account of how we have aspartame that goes under the trade names of "Nutrasweet" or "Equal" available to us today may just do that!

And there have been a number of people I know personally who have expressed an undaunted faith in the "government" and expect it will always do the "right thing" and not allow things that are harmful to come into their lives. They expect government agencies to always keep us safe from conspiring men and their schemes to make obscene profits at the expense of our health.

First of all, it's been discovered that all artificial sweeteners are toxic; bad for the body; poison in fact. Michael, a very good friend of mine from Knoxville, Tenn., calls them "embalming fluid for the brain" based on his own personal experience in a funeral parlor.

Now for the story.

Nutrasweet® brand sweetener was discovered in 1965 at G.D Searle and Company by researcher James Schlatter. He was working on research with amino acids trying to develop a treatment for ulcers. When he licked his finger to pick up a piece of paper, Schlatter got the world's first taste of NutraSweet.

His amino acid combination may not have cured ulcers, but it helped create a product that revolutionised the category of "artificial sweetener" for individuals and food ingredient companies. It took a financially troubled G.D Searle and Company from the brink of disaster to the heights of prosperity.

However, it took some fancy footwork to get it into the marketplace.

Here are two good sites to look at if you want to do your own research...

The short version is:

When James Schlatter accidentally got a taste of the concoction he was working on, he surprisingly discovered it was quite sweet. It was decided it could be used as an artificial sweetener and testing was commenced.

They gave it to five monkeys. One of the monkeys died and three of them had grand mal seizures. Promising start? Not really!

The company must have been greatly encouraged by such spectacular results because they immediately fed it to test mice. It worked out just as successfully with these little animals - they found that over forty percent of the mice developed brain tumors.

So, being very much encouraged by such wonderful results they tried to get it accepted by the FDA as an artificial sweetener but the FDA said, "You can't possibly use this stuff as a sweetener. Go away!" So, they said, "Well. we'll go do some more studies", and promptly gave it to some more mice.

If the mice died, they would simply leave them laying out for six weeks before they performed the autopsies so that the carcasses had rotted enough that they couldn't find any brain tumors. They went back to the FDA with these very spectacular results but the FDA saw through what was going on, called the results "fraudulent" and sent them away again.

The company then hired Donald Rumsfeld who, at the time has a reputation as being someone who could take a failing company and turn it around; someone who could overcome all obstacles and get the job done.

He was hired as president of the company. And so, as this new power on the throne, he was determined to get this new discovery approved as an artificial sweetener. However, the FDA kept turning him down.

Enter Ronny Reagan as a squeaky clean new president. Rumsfeld immediately became part of his cabinet. So, the day after Reagan's inauguration, he signed an executive order forbidding the head of the FDA from doing anything whatsoever effectively tying his hands. Within a few weeks the Reagan administration installed a new head of the FDA, and within a few short weeks after that, this new department head approved aspartame as an artificial sweetener fit for human consumption.

This is the exact same stuff that caused brain tumors in 40% of test mice!

It wasn't long after this historic event that he resigned and went to work for the pharmaceutical company.

Well, that's how we got aspartame...

Since then the number of known people dying of a brain tumor has gone up exponentially in this country. It dates right back to the approval of aspartame as a sweetener. The really sad part is aspartame is being used in just about anything and everything from crackers to cookies to vitamins to whatever, because the producers are aware of the fact that aspartame is addictive.

Once you start using it, it's very, very difficult to quit. This essentially means that you will buy more of their products!

I guess that shouldn't be a huge surprise if you follow through on your research. If you remember, in the court testimonies of the cigarette companies, it was proven that they purposely added things to cigarettes to make them more addictive so people would keep buying and using them.

Well, guess who owns most food companies? Most of the major food companies are owned by guess who???

The tobacco companies. Look it up!!!

Ugly story isn't it? But it's not a story, it's real. It's history... Our history.
