"One crucial thing you need to know before starting a Fitness Program!"

Everyone has their own 'why' to get in shape. Perhaps it is to become healthier for a better quality of life; to be trim toned and tanned for your wedding day; to lose those extra kilos after having your bub; to increase your self esteem and self image or you may simply need a suitable fitness program to recover from a health related complication or operation... just to name a few.And there are literally thousands of choices when it comes to fitness, however, the industry is also notorious for creating 'fads' and there is plenty of misleading information to simply sell you on the dream of achieving the 'ideal body'. The marketing is very clever and excels at manipulating your emotions by offering you all sorts of 'life changing results', which is more often than not a complete load of CRAP! So why do they do it? Because it sells. But what you are never told is this... There are actual specific body shapes or 'Somatotypes' that every single one of us falls into, which are classified into the following categories...
1. Ectomorphic... Lean, angular in shape, fragile in appearance and rather low in fat. 2. Mesomorphic... Strongly framed, muscular and evenly proportioned. 3. Endomorphic... Soft, rounded body shape with a tendency to store fat.
This is simply called... 'GENETICS' and it is 100% completely and utterly responsible for your individual body type.
Now this may not be what you want to hear at this point in time, but hey... we are not a late night infomercial telling you what you WANT to hear, we're here to tell you how it is.
But not all is lost because you can take the first step by accepting that your genetically based somatotype is beautiful, it is unique and you can now begin taking the right steps to making the most of the cards you've been dealt with. It really comes down to plain common sense... "Neither overeating nor dieting will change a person's body type, but can change the shape superficially by altering the amount of fat stored. The majority of dieters are women, whose shape is affected by fat stores at hips, thighs, abdomen and breasts. When overweight, fat deposits at these places will be greatly increased. Exercise can affect body shape when it tightens slack muscles, aids loss of excess weight by reducing fat stores, or improves posture. But it will not change a person's Somatotype.
Body image is the individual's perception of their own shape. This may be distorted, as in sufferers from eating disorders who may see themselves as grossly overweight when they are emaciated and starving. Perceptions of body shape are, to a great extent, dictated by fashion. Adolescent girls often have a distorted body image, and they are the main group at risk of dieting to excess in an effort to conform to a certain standard."
Anatomica The Complete Home Medical Reference In other words...
You can diet and exercise all you want, but you will never ever change your somatotype.
However, with intelligent nutrition and effective results-based exercise, you can influence your 'body shape' in conjunction with your somatotype and make the best of what you were dealt with when you entered this world. And this is where we recommend that you start out with results based fitness activities and exercises that you feel are most enjoyable and best suited for you. So if there has been a lack of regular exercise in your lifestyle for a while, then starting off with a short brisk walk around the block can often help to develop a healthy habit of regularity. This will give you a good foundation to build upon and then you can look at more specific forms of training later to attain the ideal physique you desire. Happy training!
